Square and Compass, Worth Matravers, Swanage

Saturday 6th April 2013

We had the pleasure of playing at the famous Square and Compass in Worth Matravers, Dorset at the weekend. The bride, Kim, has seen us play at our residency at the Ship in Swanage and had such a good time she booked us back in October 2012 to play her wedding.

The Square and Compass is a great setting and we were set up in the marquee in the garden of the pub. With the countryside setting, the straw stage seemed apt, the first we’ve seen. We’re still finding bits of straw stuck to our gear, makes a nice change from sand or mud! Some of the guys had time to sample some of the local brews in the pub while our sound man, John, sorted out a guest of the wedding to DJ using our PA system before we went on.

Our 7 piece band with the brass section was on hot form, even with a challenging first dance. We played Under My Skin made famous by Frank Sinatra for the happy couple and all those jazz chords sounded great blended together. Along with a load of pop hits and a few Stevie Wonder standards everyone had a great night with guests wanting more at the end of the night. Unfortunately we had to end by the music curfew and finished with You’ve Got the Love.

We were treated to some amazing Chicken and Chorizo Paella courtesy of Iluminada – https://www.facebook.com/giantpaella. They were lovely guys and they left us some boxes of Paella to have in our break which was well appreciated.
